Abstract

This study investigates the critical role of functionally based core competencies in sustaining performance and competitiveness within the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning sector, with a focus on a leading Turkish firm. While technological advancements and regulatory changes have driven industry transformation, the organizational competencies required to maintain a competitive edge remain underexplored. Using the DEMATEL method, this research identifies and prioritizes key functional competencies, emphasizing the strategic importance of customer-oriented marketing and sales strategies in responding to market demands and sustaining competitive advantage. The findings highlight the interplay between technological innovation, cross-functional collaboration, and dynamic capabilities as drivers of long-term success. Although the study provides valuable insights, its focus on a single firm limits its generalizability, indicating the need for broader, multi-firm research. By offering a framework to understand and leverage core competencies, this study contributes to both academic knowledge and practical applications in navigating the evolving heating, ventilation, and air conditioning market.
