Guidelines for authors

Authors are requested to prepare and submit their manuscripts in accordance with the following instructions to ensure a smooth and anonymous review process.

Manuscript templates

Please prepare your submission using the official journal templates:

  • Main Manuscript File (Anonymous) – without authors’ names or any identifying information
  • Title Page – including full author details

(Download links are provided here.)

Originality and prior publication policy

Manuscripts submitted to the journal must be entirely original. Any manuscript that has been previously published, in whole or in part, in any other journal, book, conference proceedings, or platform, in any language, will be desk rejected without being sent for peer review.

Submission to this journal confirms that the manuscript:

  • Has not been published previously in any language
  • It is not currently under review or accepted for publication elsewhere
  • Does not substantially overlap with previously published work

Authors are fully responsible for ensuring compliance with this policy. Failure to disclose prior publication or substantial overlap will be treated as a serious breach of publication ethics.

Anonymity and submission requirements

Before submission, authors must ensure that:

  • The main manuscript file is in Word format and contains no author names or identifying information.
  • All acknowledgements or references to assistance in preparing the manuscript are included only in the cover letter to the Editor, not in the manuscript file.
  • The manuscript is fully anonymized to support a double-anonymized review process.

To facilitate processing, please ensure that:

  • The entire manuscript (including references) is double-spaced, using a 12-point font or larger, with minimum 1-inch margins.
  • Footnotes or endnotes are kept to a minimum and included only when necessary.
  • Any hypotheses are clearly identified as such.
  • Constructs and variables are written in full words, not abbreviations.

Content and Length of Manuscripts

  • The Journal welcomes original research articles that fall within its aims and scope and are written as concisely as the subject matter and methodology allow.
  • Manuscripts must be written in English and should normally be 6,000–9,000 words in length.
  • The first page of the manuscript should include:
    • The title only (no author names)
    • An abstract of no more than 250 words
    • Up to five keywords suitable for indexing and abstracting services
The abstract should summarize the entire paper, not only the conclusions.
  • All manuscripts must be typed double-spaced.
  • Submission implies that the manuscript:
    • Contains original work
    • Has not been published previously
    • Is not under consideration for publication elsewhere
  • Copyright of all accepted papers will be vested in the University of Tehran.

Mode of submission

All manuscripts must be submitted electronically via the IJMS online editorial system (Manuscript Central) at:
http://ijms.ut.ac.ir

Preparation of the title page

  • The title page should include:
    • The manuscript title
    • Author(s)’ name(s), academic position(s), and institutional affiliation(s)
    • Full correspondence address for the corresponding author

For multi-authored papers, names and affiliations of all authors must be clearly indicated. Correspondence will be sent to the first-named author, unless otherwise specified.

To ensure prompt publication, please provide:

    • Full address
    • Email address
    • Telephone number

Any acknowledgements should appear only on the title page.

To maintain anonymity, authors must not identify themselves directly or indirectly in the manuscript text following the title page.

Tables, figures, and footnotes

Tables, figures, and footnotes should be placed within the text at appropriate points and should be understandable without reference to the main text.
Footnotes should be avoided where possible; if used, they must be numbered consecutively using superscript Arabic numerals.

Research instruments

If questionnaires or other research instruments are not fully reproduced in the manuscript, authors may submit a separate copy of the complete instrument. In such cases, a note must be included on the title page indicating where the full instrument can be obtained.

Hypotheses and statistical reporting

  • Hypotheses should normally be stated in positive form, indicating the expected outcome when theoretical assumptions are supported by empirical evidence.
Where appropriate, null hypotheses may be used, particularly when:
  • A null result supports a theoretical position, or
  • No prior expectation exists

Authors must clearly indicate how statistical tests were applied (e.g., one-tailed or two-tailed). Statistical significance should be reported to the nearest percentage point (e.g., p < 0.04), rather than only conventional thresholds.

References and citation style

  • All citations and references must follow the APA 7th edition style.
In-text citations should use the author–date format, and the reference list should be presented alphabetically at the end of the manuscript.
  • Please use this guideline.

Author biography

Authors are required to provide a short biography (50–75 words) to accompany the published article.

Additional information

  • Authors are responsible for obtaining written permission to reproduce or quote material from copyrighted sources.
  • Submitted manuscripts or figures will not be returned unless a request is made at the time of submission.
  • Authors will receive: One electronic offprint of the published article and one complimentary copy of the journal issue
  • Authors must disclose all sources of funding or financial support. The following statement should be included in both: In a footnote on the first page, and in the manuscript submission system

Example:

“The authors would like to acknowledge the financial support of … for this research under grant number …”

Guidelines on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for authors

  1. General principles

Authors may use AI tools to support aspects of manuscript preparation; however, AI tools must not replace human intellectual contribution, scholarly judgment, or author responsibility. Authors remain fully accountable for the originality, accuracy, integrity, and ethical standards of their work.

  1. Acceptable uses of AI

AI tools may be used for:

  • Language editing, grammar correction, and stylistic improvements
  • Enhancing clarity, coherence, and readability of the manuscript

All AI-generated outputs must be critically reviewed, validated, and approved by the authors.

  1. Unacceptable uses of AI

AI tools must not be used to:

  • Generate original research ideas, hypotheses, or theoretical frameworks without substantial human input
  • Fabricate, falsify, or manipulate data, results, images, or references
  • Produce entire manuscripts or substantial sections without meaningful author involvement
  • Assign authorship or be listed as an author

AI systems cannot be credited as authors, as they cannot assume responsibility for scholarly content.

  1. Editorial Review

The journal reserves the right to request further clarification regarding AI use and to take appropriate editorial action in cases of unethical or undisclosed use of AI tools.
