Abstract

The current research explores the integration of AI tools in teaching and assessment of EAP/ESP teachers working in Tourism and Hospital Management programs across Uzbekistan. An Explanatory Sequential Mixed-Methods Design was used, with two research instruments: a descriptive survey to collect quantitative data and semi-structured interviews to gather qualitative data. The study involved 48 EAP/ESP teachers from eight higher educational institutions, including four private and four public universities. The findings highlight a significant increase in the integration of AI tools in teaching and assessment practices to enhance efficiency, material development, student engagement, and creativity in EAP/ESP lessons. However, educators are concerned about the accuracy and reliability of the data, as well as ethical issues. Finally, the majority of the teachers face challenges such as limited access to technology, a lack of digital literacy on how to use AI, and insufficient institutional support and financial obstacles. The study findings reveal an urgent need for professional training on how to effectively apply AI in the teaching and assessment practices of EAP/ESP teachers. Institutional support should be provided to facilitate the integration of AI tools into their teaching and assessment practices.
