Abstract
This study examines how emotional experience, destination image, halal certification, satisfaction, and word of mouth influence domestic tourists' revisit intention to Yogyakarta, Indonesia. We used a quantitative cross-sectional design with an online questionnaire. We purposively sampled Indonesian nationals aged 17 or older who visited Yogyakarta for leisure in the past 6 months. Results show that destination image and emotional experience increase satisfaction. Emotional experience and satisfaction boost word of mouth. Satisfaction and word of mouth drive revisit intention. Halal certification does not significantly affect satisfaction or revisit intention. Destination image does not directly impact revisit intention. Building on these findings, this study extends the Theory of Planned Behavior. We integrated emotional experience, destination image, and halal certification into one model for domestic heritage-halal tourism. In a Muslim context, halal certification acts as a normative baseline, not a loyalty driver. Researchers often overlook this nuance when they focus on international visitors. This study refines TPB by showing that affective and experiential factors outweigh functional and normative ones in driving tourist loyalty. Marketers and policymakers in Yogyakarta and similar regions should create emotionally engaging, satisfying experiences for domestic tourists. They should not rely only on certification standards.
