Abstract
The mega construction projects contribute to the development of the global economy, yet they are plagued by significant and prolonged delays, leading to a reduction in construction efficiency and financial risks. The objective of the study is to assess practitioners’ perceived effectiveness of mitigation strategies used to manage time overrun in mega construction projects. To obtain a complete perspective of delay causes, perceived mitigation effectiveness, and the effects of project contextual factors on schedule performance, the study utilizes a mixed-methods approach (quantitative and qualitative). The data was gathered using a structured survey of 250 construction practitioners and semi-structured interviews with 10 practitioners to gather qualitative information. The results also demonstrate that implementation quality, leadership commitment, stakeholder coordination and technology readiness are important for the perceived success of mitigation. The study adds value by establishing a connection between practitioner-rated mitigation methods and project context, and provides practical suggestions for enhancing schedule management. Findings are limited to perceptions of effectiveness as the evidence is cross-sectional and self-reported.
